Meet Carmen

“Carmen is a brilliant, effective, kind, creative, positive trainer. She enriches the lives of the dogs and guardians fortunate enough to work with her. She treats each dog as an individual, assesses their capabilities, motivations and needs. She taught our high energy, super focused herding dog to relax and found new things for her to do and learn, giving her a balance of stimulation and peace. Carmen helped our initially timid dog to learn to be comfortable and friendly with men and to develop confidence to actively explore her surroundings. Both our beloved dogs love and adore her. We are truly thankful to know and work with her.”

I am certified through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), the leading independent certifying organization for the dog training profession.  I am also on the staff of AnimalSense Canine Training and Behavior in Chicago, Illinois where I teach online group classes.

I use only science-based, force-free training methods to achieve long-lasting and realistic results while having some fun too!  I’m a Professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), a Canine Training member of the Pet Professional Guild (PPG) and a Supporting member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).  I also make it a priority to learn from top training and behavior experts, regularly attending conferences, seminars and workshops to stay current in the industry.

Training can be super fun too!

I have extensive experience in the daycare and boarding environment, training and caring for hundreds of dogs over 6 years.  During my time working in this industry, I learned that while doggie daycares and hotels can be quite overstimulating and stressful for many dogs (much like the real world), training ALWAYS improved the dog’s experience during their stay, especially with high-energy, fearful or anxiety-ridden dogs.  This spawned my desire to take my knowledge and experience outside of this environment, and hence, See Jane was born.   I also became passionate about helping dogs with fear and anxiety issues as well as teaching dogs to relax and be calm while building their confidence, which is an integral part of my training curriculum.

As a life-long animal lover, I grew up with many cats and dogs in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii, but it was the love of my life, Jane, my Jack Russell Terrier of almost 18 years, who ultimately inspired me to pursue a career in dog training and is the dog behind the name, See Jane Dog Behavior and Training.
